Cats Claw herb (Una de Gato) from the Amazon RainforestCats Claw (Uncaria Tomentosa) is available in liquid extract or tincture-enhanced herb capsules from this Independent Amazon Herbs Company distributor. Cats Claw herb (named Una de Gato in Spanish) grows in the rainforest and jungle areas of South America and Asia. Cats Claw gets its name from the small thorns at the base of its leaves which curl back to resemble its namesake. When the cats claw vine (which grows up to 100 feet in height) is harvested at about three feet above ground, it grows back to full size within a few years. It is this "environmentally friendly" method in which native villagers harvest this healing herb for the Amazon Herb Company. Used by Rainforest natives for more than 2,000 years, cats claw is considered a medicinal plant and protected in Peru. Traditionally, it was believed to support respiratory, muscle and joint health as well as work as a digestive aid and kidney cleanser. In 1994, the World Health Organization sponsored the first international conference on this powerful herb and it was recognized as one of the most important medicinal plants in the world. Cats Claw bark and roots are rich in immune supporting oxindole alkaloids as also a powerful antioxidant and anti-inflammatory. Cats Claw may also offer antibacterial properties, due to these alkaloids.
Processing Method: The liquid tinctures are prepared according to the time-consuming Spagyric Method which involves crushing and soaking the wild-harvested raw herbs in a bath of pure grain alcohol and water for 3-4 weeks. This "bath" breaks the fiberous cell walls and releases the vital elements so that they are more bioavailable. So the tinctures are, in effect, a "predigested product" that gets absorbed quickly. After the oils and liquids are extracted, the remaining pulp is fired to become ash (which alkalinaizes the body and is rich in minerals). The liquids, oils and ash are then recombined. None of the leaf or stem is discarded. For the capsule product, more raw herb is crushed, sprayed with the tincture and then allowed to dry before encapsulating. Formulas containing cats claw: Summary Suggested amounts: 1 teaspoon of liquid 1 to 3 times per day or 3-5 capsules taken 1 to 3 times daily. Common Names: Cats Claw is known by other names throughout South America. These include: una de gato, paraguayo, garabato, samento, tambor huasca and others.
